MOUNTAIN BIKE

The southernmost part of South Tyrol is an insider secret for many mountain bikers. With hard, technically demanding routes (plus less demanding ones depending on your mood), numerous single trails and a wonderful landscape that combines Alpine and Mediterranean features, there is everything here for bikers to enjoy. Our hotel is particularly well situated for exploring South Tyrol’s south and the neighbouring Trentino region.
There is a lockable bike garage with cleaning and repair facilities, high-energy snacks and drinks, and a laundry service (fee payable).
Maps and tours available (some also as GPS files).
We work closely with the “Mountainbike School Roen” which, alongside technical training and individual advice, also offers guided MBT tours for all levels almost every day. Uli and Armin will make sure you are in the best of hands!

Mountain bike school tour programme

FIVE GUIDED MOUNTAIN BIKE TOURS A WEEK, TWO DIFFERENT LEVELS

Monday: Montiggler Lakes Tour
Class 1 and 2: all start together towards Lake Kaltern, through orchards and vineyards to the Montiggler forest. There we go our separate ways. The class 1 group goes on trails up to wonderful viewpoints, while the class 2 group stays on forest trails. At noon we meet up again at the smaller Montiggler lake and, after a short break, we continue.
Class 1 – 900 metres climb – 45 km; Class 2 – 700 metres climb – 45 km

Tuesday: Roen – the real “high” spot
This is the absolute highlight. Monte Roen (2116 m) is “our” mountain, and both the uphill and downhill stretches are extremely demanding – there is no shame in pushing on this one. The reward is a tremendous view of the Dolomites, the Ortler massif and the Brenta group. Not forgetting the small matter of a 1900-metre descent on a 14-km single trail.
Class 1 – 2000 metres climb – 55 km – start 8.40 a.m.

Technical training
Give your muscles a workout on the way up to the Zoggler Wiese. There we can spend all day practising our technique: curves on the meadow, approaching the mountain or sharp downhill turns.
Class 2 – 600 metres climb – 20 km – start 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday: The “Ice Holes”

Today we visit a special natural phenomenon. The ice holes are located in a hollow about the size of a football pitch in the middle of the forest at an altitude of 550 m above sea level. However, the vegetation found here, such as alpine roses, larches, cranberries, etc., normally exists at an altitude of 1500 metres. Even in May there are still icicles to be seen in the small caves.
Class 1 – 1200 metres climb – 50 km – class 2 – 800 metres climb – 50 km

Thursday: Trudner Horn
We drive to Truden by car. From here we follow European Long-Distance Path E5 up to the Trudner Horn (1830 m), which is surrounded by a nature park. We can then enjoy the descent on trails through forests and along old drover’s roads before reaching a breathtaking viewpoint over the whole of the South Tyrolean Unterland, from Bozen to Salurn.
Class 1 – 2000 metres climb – 60 km – start 9:00 a.m.
Class 2 – 900 metres climb – 35 km – start 9:30 a.m. (transfer to Truden)

Friday: Single Trail round Tramin
A fantastic tour, with all the downhill sections on single trails around Tramin – some not even known to GPS systems!
Class 1 – 1400 metres climb – 37 km – start 9:30 a.m.

The Tramin-Tramin tour

This tour owes its name to a question. “Where are we?” a biker once asked me. We had been going for three hours and were sitting comfortably on a terrace waiting for lunch. My answer to the somewhat puzzled-looking guest was: “In Tramin”. More precisely, we were at the Gummerer Hof, 750 m above Tramin, but from the terrace Tramin was hidden from view. He replied: “We pedal all that way and we’re still in Tramin!” The route takes us via Lake Kaltern and the “Friedensweg” (Path of Peace) to Altenburg then, after lunch, on to Graun and the Sitzkofl where the whole of the Unterland lies below us.
Class 2 – 800 metres climb – 50 km – start 9:30 a.m.
